Resident Clergy

We have often been blessed with distinguished visiting or resident clergy in our corner of the world. The Rev. Ron Glaude and his wife are current residents of the parish. In past years we had visits from the Rev. Dr. Reginald Fuller whose daughter is a member of our parish as well as the Rev. Dr. Paul Elmen. Both are now deceased and much missed.

Part-time Staff Members:

Lora Erskine is our Secretary for the parish;  Jeremiah O`Brien has been sexton of the church for over 30 years;  Judith Roure has been our organist for over 30 years as well; James Dehls is our choir director and has been in that position for 8 years;  The Church School Directors are Carolann Malboeuf and Nicole Nichols; Rhonda Wishart is our Teen Program (J2A) Coordinator (photo above).

Current Agenda
The Vestry is the “governing board” of the parish and deals primarily with financial matters as they pertain to the running of the church. They also co-supervise our part-time staff of a Church School Director, J2A Coordinator, Sexton, Choir Director, Organist and Secretary. Other items we have been dealing with recently include Capital Projects, Adult Education, pro-active reaching out to newcomers and providing for our Youth Program called Journey to Adulthood.

Committees
The Vestry is advised by a group of committees with different functions. Standing Committees meet regularly while Ad Hoc Committees form for certain projects and then disband once that function has been completed. Standing Committees include Christian Social Outreach, Historic Preservation, Scholarship, Buildings and Grounds, Library, Fair Chairs, Finance, Stewardship, Parish Life, Worship Committee, Church School, Teen and Long-range Planning. Recent Ad Hoc Committees (that only exist for a short time or are intermittant) have included Pictorial Directory, Capital Campaign Follow-up Committee and Memorial Garden. There are opportunities for service in all of these committees. If you are interested, please call the Rector, 928-7026.

Stewardship
Our stewardship effort at Christ Church is called “Visions and Ventures” which evokes both the spirit of the ministry we are engaged in as well as what we feel is the Spirit of God’s work in the world. Every year the Vestry along with other leaders engages in a Stewardship Program that may be a letter and phone-calling program or, as in the year 2003, a Home to Home Visitation program in conjunction with our Capital Campaign. For 2009 our Stewardship Committee led us in a renewed effort to net pledges and we netted $173,000 in pledged income for next year. Every year we work to solicit written promises of monetary commitment called “pledges” that will help us budget for the coming year. A pledge is NOT a contract. It is a statement made in good faith that we hope will be made good. If you wish to pledge to Christ Church you may request a pledge card by phone or simply fill out your own statement of your financial commitment on a note card and mail it in to the office: Christ Church, Box 21, Pomfret, Ct. 06258.
